Review From topeka's Michael dill!
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Gretchen Seichrist and her new band Thelonesomekid. Nor is it any secret that I dislike hyperbole very much. I tend to respond to it in my typical contrarian fashion by discounting it entirely and avoiding whatever it may be that is being hyped.
This puts me in something of a quandary: How can I possibly tell you about this new album by Thelonesomekid, entitled "iamthelonesomekid" without resorting to that very hyperbolic language I claim to detest? When I tell you this album is simply amazing, am I stooping to lazy hype? Or if I say the song "My Bed" is breathtakingly beautiful, does it sound like oversell? Will you just discount everything I say about the album if I tell you that the song "Heartfelt News" is a stunning and impressive example of a pure punk rave-up, or that the haunting and errie "Funnels" raises goose-bumps on my arms?
The point is, this new album is probably the strongest recording I've ever heard from Gretchen Seichrist, and she's no neophyte to recording, having six albums to her credit with her old band Patches and Gretchen. But it is, and I simply can't say enough good about it- can't avoid using those dreadful adjectives and adverbs- which for once, are entirely appropriate. You should get it, and here are the links so you can do just that. Out digitally on December 25 (Merry Christmas to you!) and in physical format on December 27.
